Excitement!

The amount of excitement would be hard to beat right now. I told you that things were afoot and they are! The new logo will give it away… maybe?

I’m super excited to not only be going back into business but leaping in and developing the store I always wanted to have. Quality products for cozy living… that’s us!

FlanelberryHearthandHome.jpgMore on what those products will be to follow but suffice to say they will range from adorable vintage paper and stationary to sweet hand dyed scarves and accessories, and then, if that’s not enough, products for home, like super cute enamel dishware. I’m hoping that 2018 will involve a stationary campaign and lovely ephemera but I don’t want to give it all away yet!

Will we have these items for sale online? Maybe in the future but for right now, we’ll just be selling them in our brick and mortar shop.

Do yourself a favour

This came across my facebook feed (again)

While flannelberry is all about the cozy, the comfy, the snuggly, and encouraging that, I’m also a textile artists (seems to oh la la to say that) and I know fibre. Honestly, this is going to look good for a day, especially if you use white. It’s going to pick up every bit of a lint, pet  hair,  random bits of fluff, and then it’s going to pill. It’s a cute and great idea but it’s not one that’s going to last. For me, this is just another one of those short cut things. If you want something homemade, just learn how to make the thing; don’t look for the shortcut/last minute work around. And I assure you, I am the queen of the last minute/work around gift, if this was a good idea, I’d be all over. But it’s really, really not. It’s a waste of time, money, and fibre that could be better used in so many ways.

If you want to make a wool blanket or wrap, go to your LYS (local yarn store) and get some help in getting started. You can get some large needles and super chunky yarn and knit (or crochet) something that will last almost as quickly as making that arm knitting thing.

Exciting things!

Oh my goodness you guys, there is so much exciting going on right now. I can’t divulge all of the details but let’s just say it’s got to do with making sure people have cute and cozy sorts of things for Christmas (and beyond)!

I know that’s a lame, teasing post but… more to come soon.

Mouse in the house

I had intended to write a lovely post about the gorgeous colours as the weather changes – and it has been absolutely stunning, don’t get me wrong.

And then I had to go right into the pantry, head down to rummage around when I smelled… mouse pee. Well, that was it. I started flinging things out, including the mouse as it turned out. So now we have just enough back in place for the mouse to feel intrigued to come back home.

Hopefully this will also result in the mouse wanting a nibble of the cheese on the trap. Yep, it is a killing trap and I’m just fine with that. If I caught the mouse and relocated it outside, it would be a slow, painful hungry death as winter started and it didn’t have any stores which is not fair at all. My hope is actually that one of the cats will get it but…

We’ll see how this works out.

Alrighty

Here’s the update… so many updates!

The first two are:

1) I’ll embed the old site (http://flannelberry.weebly.com/) up in the menu so I don’t have to migrate all of the old info here because… why make work for myself? I know it’s not that hard, there are even widgets that will basically do it for you but… nay. I’m just not going to.

2) Please don’t contact me about goats. I’ve sold the lot of them and so, have none to sell you. If you have a goat question, I suppose I could try to answer it but you’d be better off trying somewhere like https://www.thegoatspot.net/ because I’m really out of goats for now so I won’t be keeping up to date on research etc.

How’s that for now? Oh – and there are no goats but things haven’t changed that much…

We’ve moved!

So, we’re in the new home (and yes, I see it’s really dated now!). I have lots of nice things to say about Weebly but we’d been having some glitches with accounting (including having been double billed for months!). I can handle a lot of things but accounting problems every six months are not one of them. So, I’m back to wordpress.

Once I get my wits about me, I’ll get a proper post up. Until then, adieu!

Breeding, Farm life, goats, Kidding, Nigerian Dwarf Goats, Stock for sale

Sad day

Yesterday our special needs little guy succumbed to his challenges. He has been tested and poked and prodded and evaluated beyond (probably) any goat anywhere. The best the vet could come up with was that, as with any mammal, this little guy was just born a bit special but he didn’t know why.

IMG_9091  <Here he is with his sibs.

He had been really slowing down over the last fews days, just starting to drift off from the flock and not caring (never a good sign) but still eating and affectionate and doing most of the things goats do. More and more often we would have to retrieve him from wherever he was. He also was not keeping up growth wise. His sister, who was less than half his weight at birth was more than double his weight and half again as tall as him as of yesterday.

So we wondered if the end was coming but hoped we would have him a bit longer. Yesterday he went downhill quickly and we had our answer.

Farewell Freyr. We miss you already.
